Lagom LLP (“Lagom”, “we”, “us” or “our”) is a firm of Chartered Professional Accountants based in Edmonton, Alberta. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal information entrusted to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and safeguard personal information through our website and in the course of providing our services, in accordance with Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) where it applies, and the Rules of Professional Conduct of CPA Alberta.
By submitting information through our website or engaging our services, you consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information as described in this policy. Where required, we will seek your express consent. You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice; however, doing so may limit our ability to provide certain services to you.
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to make the site work properly and to understand how visitors use it. We use Google Tag Manager and related Google analytics services, which collect information such as pages visited, time spent on the site and general location based on IP address. This information is used in aggregate to improve our website and does not identify you personally. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Disabling cookies may affect how parts of the website function.
Some of our service providers may store or process personal information outside of Canada, including in the United States. When this happens, your information is subject to the laws of that jurisdiction and may be accessible to its courts, law enforcement and national security authorities. We take reasonable steps to ensure that service providers offer a comparable level of protection. You may contact us to learn more about our policies regarding service providers outside of Canada.
We protect personal information using reasonable physical, administrative and technical safeguards, including restricted access, secure file-sharing tools, password protection and encryption where appropriate. While no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, we work to protect your information against loss, theft and unauthorized access, use or disclosure.
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes it was collected, or as required by law and professional standards. Client files are generally retained for the periods required by the Income Tax Act and CPA Alberta, after which they are securely destroyed.
As Chartered Professional Accountants, we are bound by the confidentiality requirements of the CPA Alberta Rules of Professional Conduct. Information you share with us in the course of an engagement is kept confidential and is not disclosed without your consent, except where required by law or by our professional obligations.
You have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you and to ask that it be corrected if it is inaccurate or incomplete. To make a request, please contact us using the details below. We will respond within the time required by law, generally 45 days. In some cases, we may be unable to provide access, for example where information is protected by legal privilege or would reveal personal information about another person; if so, we will explain why.
Our website may contain links to third-party websites, such as social media platforms or government resources. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those websites, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies.
Our website is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through it. Where we provide services involving a minor, such as preparing a tax return, we collect that information from a parent or legal guardian.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or in the law. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
